Statement of purpose

Darwin House, located in Wolverhampton, offers a unique service for children and young people who have complex mental health needs and associated behaviours. Our comprehensive multidisciplinary team has many decades of experience working with young people facing mental health challenges. Darwin House offers a range of containing, intensive, flexible, and skilled interventions to fill gaps in community and inpatient services. Our individualised, client-centred care planning is based on multidisciplinary assessments and interventions. The team also provides indirect support to education providers to manage daily behaviours, ensuring that each child’s needs are met.


Our vision for Darwin House is to provide the highest possible level of care in a homely, relaxed, and nurturing environment. We aim to help young people develop the academic, practical, social, and daily living skills needed to thrive and transition into adulthood. Darwin House creates an environment that offers a range of experiences and support mechanisms, allowing young people to live in the most independent community living setting appropriate to their needs.

R joined Darwin House in 2021, showing symptoms of psychosis after a hospital admission, alongside diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and global developmental delay. With a history of significant domestic violence impacting his emotional stability, R required a stable and secure environment. Through our comprehensive care program, R lost 2 stone in 6 months, developed healthy living strategies, and improved his social relationships and confidence. His educational achievements have been outstanding, with his writing being published in a book that will remain in the National Archives of the British Library.
